R.C.M.P.
Police protection service is provided to the municipality by the Moose Jaw detachment of the R.C.M.P.

Fire Department Services
The Caron/Caronport Fire Department is a regional department that covers a large geographical area which includes the RM of Caron No. 162, RM of Wheatlands No. 163, RM of Hillsborough No. 132, Village of Caronport and Mortlach; and Hamlets of Caron and Parkbeg.
The Department provides emergency fire and extraction response services to it’s partnered municipalities and covers over 50km of the TransCanada Highway. It is also the primary grain rescue service response between Regina and Swift Current.
As of 2025, the RM of Wheatlands No.163 is a FULL partner with the Caronport Fire Department.
What this means:
- Yearly levy submitted by the RM of Wheatlands: OLD : $20,000 NEW: $34,000
- Ratepayers are NO LONGER charged for firecalls within our boundaries (“ratepayers” excluding, railways & pipelines)
- A Satellite Fire Hall is being constructed on the outskirts of Mortlach (across from the RM shop) & is owned by the RM of Wheatlands
- Operational & maintenance costs for this Satellite Fire Hall are borne by the Caronport Fire Department

Fire Suppression
All controlled or planned burns must be reported in order to avoid a false alarm. If you plan to do a controlled burn, please call the 9-1-1 Administration at:
1-866-404-4911
Report what you are burning, the land location of the controlled burn, and the telephone number you can be reached at. This will avoid the Fire Department being called out on a false emergency. Also, call the RM Office or your Councillor to notify them of the burn.
